This is a book cover redesign for The Mist by Steven King. The design is loosely inspired by Jim Tierney’s cover of The Stand by Steven King. I chose to use a strong serif font for the author and the title to match the typographic style of King’s other stories. I then took that serif font and stretched it out so it almost looks like it’s melting to fit the organic shapes of the mist illustration and add to the horror aspect. I chose very low contrast colors so you can’t quite tell if the wavy patterns are clouds of mist or monster tentacles.
